Birth Announcements - John and Jesus
(Luke 1:5-38) The end of the Old Testament left the nation of Israel, God's chosen people, in a rather sad state. The closing prophecy of Malachi was followed by 400 years of silence from God. When the New Testament opens, the silence is broken! God speaks again in spectacular ways: angelic visits, visions, dreams, and signs. The angels come announcing two world changing events: the birth of John, the Baptist, the forerunner of the Lord to prepare the people for His coming, and the birth of Jesus Christ, Israel's promised King, the eternal God made flesh to dwell among men, and the Savior of the world.
