(Revelation 2-3) Most believe that the messages to the seven churches in Revelation 2-3 picture the history of the church, the body of Christ, from its beginning until the rapture, but a careful look at these messages shows, instead, that they are written to churches (local assemblies of worship) who will live during the future tribultion period with vital instructions to them on how they must live to be saved. The messages are clearly directed primarily toward Jews as noted by continuous references to Israel, to Old Testament events, places, and people, and to clear references to future events described in the rest of the book.
