Prophecy and Mystery - 2

Sunday Morning Message

[Old Testament, 4 Gospels] The key to understanding the Bible is found in 2 Timothy 2:15, "rightly dividing the Word of truth." Recognizing the different ways God has dealt with humanity throughout histroy. One of the two main divisions of the Bible we need to make is between prophecy and mystery. God's plan and purpose for His earthly people, the nation Israel (and how the Gentiles would be blessed as they are) was the subject of prophecy, which we see initially in the Old Testament Scriptures. God's plan and purpose for His heavenly people, the Church, the Body of Christ was kept secret until God revealed it to and through the Apostle Paul. This morning, we begin looking at why this two-fold division is so important in understanding the Scriptures and God's eternal purpose as it is revealed in them. This division concerns how and when God's truth was made known. We will look at how this affects our understanding of both the Old Testament as well as the four gospel accounts.
