Faithful Servants - Good Soldier

2 Timothy

(2 Timothy 2:1-4) In the 2nd chapter of 2 Timothy, Paul shows Timothy that believers are called to be faithful servants of Jesus Christ, and stresses that this work is hard. Paul uses three mini-parables to illustrate what a faithful servant of Jesus Christ must be. This morning, we look at the first illustration, that of a good soldier.

A verse by verse study of Paul's last letter, written to Timothy, his son in the faith. Paul, knowing he had completed his own ministry from the Lord and was near the end of his life, wrote this letter to Timothy (and to all believers) stressing the importance of continuing the ministry of God's Word. Perilous times were coming, during which more and more people would resist the truth and even turn their ears away from it. Yet, the charge to Timothy, as well as to every believer, is to hold fast to the truth of the mystery and the gospel of God's grace that God had given through Paul, to continue to live out these truths, and to faithfully proclaim this message of grace to others.
