The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the greatest event in history; it is the central theme of the Scriptures; it is the crisis point through which God’s eternal purpose of redemption was accomplished. It is imperative that we study and know about this critical event in the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ. In this series, we examine one particular aspect of the crucifixion: the 7 statements Jesus made while He hung on the cross. These statements, which were uttered during the greatest event in history, are clearly significant. We will look at the order in which the statements were made, the situation and purpose for each statement, and the insight each one gives us into the mind and heart of our Savior as well as the reason that He died on that cross.

We continue looking at the testimony of fulfilled prophecy concerning the coming of the Lord, which provides evidence of the inspiration of the Scriptures and of the person of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. This morning, we examine some key prophecies concerning the sufferings, death, and resurrection of our Savior, with an emphasis on those prophecies that foretold the purpose of His coming into the world: to die on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins.
