(2 Tim. 4:2-4) We saw in the opening verses of the final chapter in 2 Timothy, that Paul gives his final charge to his son in the faith, Timothy, to all pastors, and to every believer to "preach the Word!" This charge also includes convicting, rebuking, and exhorting them with all longsuffering and teaching. This charge is a solemn and urgent responsibility entrusted to us, for the time will come when men will no longer remain under the sound of God's Word. They will heap up teachers who will tell them what they want to hear rather than what they need to hear. They will eventually turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables (myths). Therefore, we must redeem the time and the opportunities we have to faithfully share the truth of God's Word with them.

A verse by verse study of Paul's last letter, written to Timothy, his son in the faith. Paul, knowing he had completed his own ministry from the Lord and was near the end of his life, wrote this letter to Timothy (and to all believers) stressing the importance of continuing the ministry of God's Word. Perilous times were coming, during which more and more people would resist the truth and even turn their ears away from it. Yet, the charge to Timothy, as well as to every believer, is to hold fast to the truth of the mystery and the gospel of God's grace that God had given through Paul, to continue to live out these truths, and to faithfully proclaim this message of grace to others.
