We begin looking at the 2nd tenet of Calvinism, the "U" of the TULIP acronym, which stands for "Unconditional Election." Calvinists teach that God, before the foundation of the world, unconditionally elected some for salvation through Jesus Christ, leaving (or electing) the rest to suffer eternal condemnation; this choice was not based on anything in the person chosen (character or works), nor was this choice based on God's foreknowledge of anything about this person (including their faith). We also examine the different Hebrew and Greek words for "election" and how they are used in the Scriptures.
In this series, we examine the 5 points of Calvinism, typically specified by the TULIP acronym, to see whether they are consistent with the teachings of Scripture.
