CloseOne of the most essential doctrines associated with the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ is that He would be born of a virgin. This was the sign given to the house of David through the prophet Isaiah in the days of King Ahaz (Isaiah 7:14). Though it is denied by the world, even by many who go by the name of "Christian," the truth of this teaching is crucial to the very foundation of Christianity, the purpose for Christ's coming into the world: that He might die on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins. This morning, we examine the clear declaration that Jesus was, indeed, born of a virgin, and consider why this doctrine is so important.
