Limited Atonement - 1

A Scriptural Look at Calvinism

We begin looking at the 3rd tenet of Calvinism, the "L" from the TULIP acronym, "Limited Atonement," which asserts that Christ did not die for the sins of all people, but only for those of the elect, those God sovereignly chose to be saved. We consider the typical meaning of the word "atonement" as well as the Biblical use of the word as pictured in the Jewish feast, the Day of Atonement. We look at the doctrine of Limited Atonement in the words of Calvinist theologians and contrast this with the numerous statements from the Scripture that Christ died for the sins of all people.
