The Old and New Testaments
With the beginning of this new year, we will begin a new study in the book of Ephesians, but before we delve into a verse by verse study of this book, we need to look at some important principles and guidelines for understanding the Scriptures in general, and the book of Ephesians in particular. This morning, we look at the question: "What are the two main divisions of the Bible?" Most people would answer: "Old and New Testaments," and while there are some clear differences between these portions of Scripture, such a simple division is misleading and leads to false assumptions about the nature of the Scriptures. We will examine what the phrases "old testament" and "new testament" really refer to and how our view of them affects our understanding of the Scriptures.
