Faithful Servants - Hard-Working Farmer

2 Timothy

(2 Timothy 2:6-7) We examine the 3rd of 3 mini-parables Paul uses to illustrate the hard work of a faithful servant of Jesus Christ: the hard-working farmer. Once again, Paul stresses that if there are to be any crops produced, the farmer must first toil and labor, even to the point of weariness.

A verse by verse study of Paul's last letter, written to Timothy, his son in the faith. Paul, knowing he had completed his own ministry from the Lord and was near the end of his life, wrote this letter to Timothy (and to all believers) stressing the importance of continuing the ministry of God's Word. Perilous times were coming, during which more and more people would resist the truth and even turn their ears away from it. Yet, the charge to Timothy, as well as to every believer, is to hold fast to the truth of the mystery and the gospel of God's grace that God had given through Paul, to continue to live out these truths, and to faithfully proclaim this message of grace to others.
