After Jesus' authority was challenged by the Jewish rulers, He taught three parables to these leaders in Israel, exposing their wickedness. The rulers, having heard these things, perceived that Jesus was speaking about them and they sought to take Him, but they feared the reaction of the Jewish people who took Him for a prophet. So, the Pharisees, taking the lead, sent spies to Jesus, pretending to be righteous, but confronting Him with questions designed to ensnare Him in His words. They were trying to get Jesus to intimidate Himself in front of the people and to find an accusation against Him to bring before Pilate. Three different parties tried, the Herodians, the Sadducees, and the Pharisees, but all three were silenced by the knowledge and wisdom of the Lord Jesus.
