In this brief series of lessons, we look at the sovereignty of God, focusing on the fact that there are different aspects to the will of god: His permissive will, His determined will, His providential will, and His desired will.

Cursing the Fig Tree
Following Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, presenting Himself to Israel as their Messiah, Jesus retired to Bethany for the night. The next day, Jesus performed two actions which pointed to the fact that the Jews, who seemed to have welcomed Him as Messiah, were actually poised to reject and crucify Him a few days later: 1) He cursed a fig tree which had leaves but no fruit, and 2) He cleansed the temple, driving the merchants and moneychangers out for turning His Father's house of prayer into a den of thieves. In this lesson, we discuss the meaning of these two actions by our Savior.
