The Parable of the Unfruitful Fig Tree - 2

The Parables of Jesus

(Luke 13:1-9) In this study, we look at the immediately preceding context for the parable of the Unfruitful Fig Tree (Luke 13:1-5), where Jesus tells the multitudes in Israel, "Repent or perish!" He then gives the parable of the unfruitful fig tree, which pictures the nation of Israel. Though they had every opportunity to bear fruit demonstrating they had genuine repentant hearts, they bore not fruit. They were to be given another opportunity, but if they still bore no fruit, the nation be cut down, indicating their removal as God's chosen nation.
