(Eph. 4:11-15) Having ascended to the highest heaven, Christ gave gifts to men, but He also gave special gifts to the church (Eph. 4:11). These gifts were given to equip the saints to do the work of the ministry that the church might be edified (built up), both in numbers and in spiritual maturity. This morning, we look at the importance of this spiritual growth of the church, the body of Christ. The extent of this growth is unto the unity of the faith, that is the full knowledge of the Son of God. The goal of this growth is unto a perfect (complete) man. The measure of this growth is according to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. The need for this growth is to ensure that believers are no longer children (infants or babes) tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, much of which is false and is intended to deceive. The church is to be founded, instead, upon the truth of God's Word, and we are to live our lives in accordance with this truth.
