The Parable of What Defiles a Man - 1

The Parables of Jesus

(Mark 7:1-13) We begin looking at the brief parable that Jesus told about what defiles a man by considering what led Him to speak this parable. Scribes and Pharisees came from Jerusalem to find fault with Jesus and could bring some kind of legal charge against Him. They complained that His disciples transgressed the tradition of the elders regarding the washing of hands before eating. Jesus responded by pointing out the hypocrisy of these wicked men who honored God with their lips, but whose hearts were far from Him.
