The Dayspring From On High Has Visited Us

Sunday Morning Message

The Old Testament Scriptures end with Israel in a bleak condition spiritually. They had been taken into captivity and scattered among the nations in 606 BC because of the sin of idolatry. A remnant of about 50,000 had returned to the land to rebuild their temple and their city walls, but even they had gradually begun to turn away from the Lord. The final Old Testament prophet, Malachi, declared to them their sins and called for their repentance, but he also held out a message of hope for them -- the Lord was coming. This prophecy was followed by approximately 400 years of silence from God: no prophecies, no dreams, no visions, no angelic visits. As the New Testament Scriptures open, the silence is broken. In this message, we examine four angelic visits which herald to birth of the Lord's forerunner, John the Baptist, as well as the birth of the Lord Jesus Himself--the Dayspring from on high who came to visit His people; to give light to those who sat in darkness and under the shadow of death.
