The Crucifixion of Jesus - 3

The Passion Week

In this lesson, we look at the third statement Jesus spoke during His crucifixion. Whereas most of those who surrounded Jesus as He hung on the cross were enemies who mocked and taunted Him, there were a few standing right beside the cross who loved Him. There were several women there from Galilee who faithfully supported Him in His ministry, but among them also stood His mother, Mary. The only one of His apostles present was John, the disciple whom Jesus loved. Knowing His mother would soon be left without any support, He entrusted her to the care of John, saying to her, "Woman, behold your son!" and to John, "Behold, your mother!" Even in the midst of His terrible sufferings, Jesus displayed His love and care for others, in this case, His mother.
