As an introduction to this series on the sufferings of our Savior the last week of His life, we begin by looking at the fact that He was born to die. In this first lesson, we look at the importance of the virgin birth and how it emphasizes the purpose of His death on the cross. We also look at the announcement of the angel to the shepherds the night of Jesus' birth, as well as the prophecy of Simeon when Joseph and Mary brought the child Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord.
