Perilous Times Will Come

2 Timothy - Preparation for Perilous Times

(2 Tim. 3:1) We move on to the 3rd chapter in 2 Timorhy, where Paul commands Timothy to "know this, that in the last days perilous times will come." These are not the last days of God's prophesied dealtings with His earthly people, Israel, but the last days of this present dispensation of grace. While there are physical signs and specific events associated with the end of the days of prophecy, this is not the case with the last days of the age of grace. Instead of signs, Paul describes trends in the spiritual condition of people on the earth that will set in as we near the rapture of the Church, conditions that will result in fierce, hard times that will be difficult for people, especially faithful servants of Jesus Christ, to bear up under.

From Series: "2 Timothy - Preparation for Perilous Times"

A verse by verse study of Paul's last letter, written to Timothy, his son in the faith. Paul, knowing he had completed his own ministry from the Lord and was near the end of his life, wrote this letter to Timothy (and to all believers) stressing the importance of continuing the ministry of God's Word. Perilous times were coming, during which more and more people would resist the truth and even turn their ears away from it. Yet, the charge to Timothy, as well as to every believer, is to hold fast to the truth of the mystery and the gospel of God's grace that God had given through Paul, to continue to live out these truths, and to faithfully proclaim this message of grace to others.
