The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the greatest event in history; it is the central theme of the Scriptures; it is the crisis point through which God’s eternal purpose of redemption was accomplished. It is imperative that we study and know about this critical event in the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ. In this series, we examine one particular aspect of the crucifixion: the 7 statements Jesus made while He hung on the cross. These statements, which were uttered during the greatest event in history, are clearly significant. We will look at the order in which the statements were made, the situation and purpose for each statement, and the insight each one gives us into the mind and heart of our Savior as well as the reason that He died on that cross.

Why Study the 4 Gospels?

Knowing Christ

Since Jesus lived His life under the dispensation of law not grace, and since His ministry was directed specifically to Israel not the Church, some feel that a study of the 4 gospel accounts of His life are not beneficial to us as members of the Church, His Body, and focus their studies only on Paul's epistles. I believe this is a huge mistake. This morning, we look at reasons why we should study these 4 God-breathed records of our Savior's life and how this can help us grow to know Him in so many ways.
