The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the greatest event in history; it is the central theme of the Scriptures; it is the crisis point through which God’s eternal purpose of redemption was accomplished. It is imperative that we study and know about this critical event in the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ. In this series, we examine one particular aspect of the crucifixion: the 7 statements Jesus made while He hung on the cross. These statements, which were uttered during the greatest event in history, are clearly significant. We will look at the order in which the statements were made, the situation and purpose for each statement, and the insight each one gives us into the mind and heart of our Savior as well as the reason that He died on that cross.

Jesus' Relationship with Friends - Part 1

Knowing Christ

Jesus had many disciples who followed and learned from Him; some were not true believers and were eventually offended and left Him; some were true believers who remained faithful to Him. From among His disciples, Jesus chose 12 apostles to be with Him in a closer relationship; these He would send out to minister in His behalf. All true believers were His friends, but the Twelve were close to Him in a special way. This morning, we begin looking at Jesus' relationship with His friends, particularly the Twelve, focusing on how Jesus handled situations where their faith faltered or they failed Him in some way.
