The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the greatest event in history; it is the central theme of the Scriptures; it is the crisis point through which God’s eternal purpose of redemption was accomplished. It is imperative that we study and know about this critical event in the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ. In this series, we examine one particular aspect of the crucifixion: the 7 statements Jesus made while He hung on the cross. These statements, which were uttered during the greatest event in history, are clearly significant. We will look at the order in which the statements were made, the situation and purpose for each statement, and the insight each one gives us into the mind and heart of our Savior as well as the reason that He died on that cross.

These Bible messages were preached in 2020 by Pastor Gregg Bing during the morning worship service at Grace Bible Church in Fort Worth, TX.

Christ in Paul's Epistles - the Church - Colossians

Knowing Christ

The book of Colossians is the third book in the group of Paul's epistles (Eph., Phil., and Col.), which speak of Christ and His Church. The focus of the Colossian letter is the truth that Christ is the Head of the church, which is His body. The Colossians saints were being subjected to false teaching that did not uphold Christ as our Head and did not hold fast to Him as our Head. In answering these false teachers, Paul declares and expounds on two doctrines about Christ: 1) the superiority of Christ - that He is very God, and 2) the sufficiency of Christ's death and resurrection - that it was enough to pay for our sins in full and give us eternal life. If we are to truly know Christ, we must see that He is our life.
